Doris Talks About Her Hairstyle And Clothes

Doris talks about her hairstyles and clothes. She had a Buster-Brown haircut. Girls wore dresses and bloomers. Doris did not realize that she was well-dressed. Her aunt Mae worked in Abilene and would send extra material. Exa (mom) could look at a picture and create a sewing pattern from newspaper and sew clothes for Doris.

Aunt Mae went to Business College. That was very unusual for a girl during that time. The older Sorrels brother also went to school and became a telegraph operator – also unusual for a farm boy from Scurry county.
