Doris Talks About Her First Paying Job And What Things Cost Back Then
Doris talks about her first job not working on the family farm. A neighbor farmer paid her 50 cents per day to hoe from sun up until sundown. She said that was the most money she had ever made and she was thrilled to death.
She gave examples of what things cost back then. Never more than $1.98 for a pair of shoes. Wash cloths were a nickle. Ten to twenty-five cents for towels and fifty cents for bed sheets. You could get a burger, drink and candy bar for a quarter. Two people could go to a movie for 15 cents.
