Doris Grant Byars Shares About Her Parents and Grandparents

Doris shares the names of her parents (Ed Grant and Exa Sorrels Grant). Ed and Exa married when Ed returned from World War I. Doris was born at her home in Ira on August 5, 1922. She was the firstborn. Her dad was a farmer all of his life. He had 8 brothers that all helped work the farms. Doris was able to visit both sets of her grandparents. Her mom’s parents (Sorrels) lived a few miles outside of Ira. Doris remembers when they would drive an old Model T car to see them and that her grandad would watch to make sure they did not get stuck in the deep sand. If they did, he would send her uncle (Marvin) with a team of horses to pull them out. When it was time to go back, they would follow them back with the horses to ensure they did not get stuck on the way out.
