Doris Grant Byars Talks About Her Childhood Home

Doris talks about the 2-room house where she was born. It didn’t have screens on the windows or doors. She tells the story of falling out the window into the mud. Doris recounts the first spanking she received for her stubborn streak. Her second house was a 3-room home where her first two brothers were born. They had a cast iron stove for heat. She remembers everyone driving the flies with cup-towels each day before lunch. The house did not have electricity and they used one oil burning lamp.
