Doris Talks About School And The Attitudes Toward Girls And School At That Time
Doris reflects about how her dad did not really see a need for girls to go to school. He grew up in a family of 8 boys.
Doris loved school and would often walk to school in the cold and rain. She remembers that her dad never took her to school but picked her up a couple of times.
Doris graduated high school. Her dad wanted to boys to finish school, but ironically none of them graduated.
She remembers second grade and performing in the Mother Goose play. At Bethel school, Doris would walk to and from after-school activities. She recalls one night hiding under a bridge from some boys.
