Doris Tells About School And Her Teachers

Doris talks about walking 2 miles to the Bethel school. Her Ira teacher was Grace King. At Bethel it was Delia McPearson She remembers getting in trouble and getting a ruler to the hand. Walking the last mile to the north was really cold during the winter. She would walk backwards to avoid the wind in her face.

The Bethel teacher had to build a fire every morning. The kids would bring the coal up from the basement every day. Water was supplied by a windmill. The bathrooms were outside of the school building and located a long way from each other to keep the boys and girls separated.
